Copperas Cove sales tax revenue slips again

The state comptroller’s office has released its sales tax revenue report on Wednesday, and the city of Copperas Cove will be a slightly lower this month compared to last March.
The city’s sales tax rebate for March is $299,473.65, which is down 1.92 percent from the $305,339.38 it received in March 2015, according to the monthly report released Wednesday.
Sales tax revenue overall for the city in 2016 is down 1.85 percent at $1,043,903.58, compared to the $1,063,661.11 received by this time last year.
Gatesville’s sales tax revenue amounts to $138,883.35, up 5.33 percent from last year’s amount of $131,845.49 and overall up 6.91 percent from 2015. The total amount of sales tax rebates for March for Coryell County is $138,883.35, up 0.32 percent from the March 2015 amount of $ 437,663.03.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $585.6 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 0.7 percent less than in March 2015. These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
“Energy-centric cities, such as Odessa, Midland, Corpus Christi and Houston, continued to see decreases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “Other areas of the state helped to somewhat offset those losses, as cities such as Austin and Dallas saw moder ate increases in allocations.”
Lampasas County is receiving a total of $140,679.36, up 10.70 percent from $127,071.01, with sales tax rebates in the county up 10 percent for the year overall.
The city of Kempner is receiving $9,948.86 in sales tax rebates, down 8.09 percent from $ 10,825.22 received last year for the same month. Kempner is down 5.66 percent for 2016 compared to 2015. The rebate amount for the city of Lampasas is up 12.22 percent from March 2015, at $125,356.03 for March 2016 compared to last March’s $$111,696.93.
Sales tax revenue for Bell County totals $3,848,328.50, down 1.67 percent from $ 3,913,724.93 in March 2015. So far Bell County’s revenue is up 1.13 percent for the year compared to 2015. Killeen’s rebates amount to $1,536,433.78, down 3.05 percent from last March at $1,584,928.95 and up 0.68 percent overall for 2015.
Harker Heights saw an increase of 1.30 percent with rebates totaling $452,333.44, up from last March’s amount of $446,522.08. For 2016, Harker Heights’ rebate totals are down 0.22 percent. Belton received $354,113.05 in sales tax rebates, up 3.02 percent from the $ 343,704.77 the city received for March 2015. Belton is up 1.48 percent for 2016.
The state of Texas is issuing $381,166,977.96 in city sales tax rebates for March, down 0.09 percent compared to the $381,531,250.57 it issued for March 2015. City sales tax revenue across the state is overall down 0.06 percent for the year.
