Donna Jo Thompson Zunker, 80, peacefully passed to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2018.  Donna Jo was currently residing at the Morningside Ministries community in Boerne, Texas after spending her retirement years on the ranch in Blanco, Texas. 

Donna Jo was born in Houston, Texas on May 18, 1938, the middle child of Albert and Norma Thompson.  She graduated from Katy High School in 1956, and then attended Southwest Texas State College until meeting Ronald Zunker from New Braunfels.   They fell in love and were married in Katy on April 18, 1959.  The couple lived in College Station and Fort Worth before settling in Copperas Cove, Texas to raise their family.  Donna Jo graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor College in 1968 with a degree in Elementary Education and Music, and taught for many years in Copperas Cove and Del Rio.  Donna Jo and Ronnie retired in 1992 to the ranch in Blanco, Texas.   She was an active member in the Blanco United Methodist Church and several other community organizations such as Good Samaritan, volunteering with the youth, teaching Vacation Bible School and performing in the bell and church choir. 

Donna Jo is survived by her three children; daughter Jo Zunker of Spicewood; daughter Kay Schielack and husband Brad of La Grange; son Ronald Zunker, Jr. and wife Chantel of Boerne.  She is also survived by grandchildren Ashley Heard Blossman and husband Eric of Houston; Tray Heard and wife Jordan of Austin; Trent Schielack and wife Kortney of College Station; Ashley, Shelby, Libby, Macey, and Luke Zunker of Boerne.  Donna Jo has two great-grandchildren Alayna and Jeb Blossman.  She is survived by her brother Albert ‘Doonie’ Thompson and wife Bonnie of Katy; sister-in-law Corrine Zunker of Bulverde; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the Thompson, Stockdick and Zunker families.

Donna Jo is preceded in death by Ronald Zunker, husband of 51 years; parents, A.W. and Norma Thompson; sister Norma Jean Thompson Lilly; grandson Heath Schielack; in-laws, Gordon and Elizabeth Zunker; brother-in-laws Noel and Gordie Zunker.

A memorial celebration will be held October 13, 2018 at the First United Methodist Family Life Center, 5601 5th St, Katy, Texas 77493.  Family visitation will begin at 3:00 pm with a worship and celebration at 4:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Heath Schielack Memorial Scholarship Fund at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Agricultural Sciences, c/o Dr Art Wolfskill, Box 2088, Huntsville, TX 77341 or Blanco United Methodist Church, PO Box 339, Blanco, Texas 78606.
