More than 200 people enjoyed breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning, when the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) the annual event at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.
After last year’s success with inviting the Grinch to breakfast, YAC members brought him back for this year’s family friendly breakfast event.
In addition to meeting and hanging out with Santa and the Grinch, the event also featured art activities and photo opportunities. Food for this year’s event was prepared by the Copperas Cove Rotary Club. Bush’s Chicken donated tea, cups, and plates for the event. Money raised at the event will go towards hosting future YAC events.
Caycee Hauk, recreational superintendent for Parks & Recreation, said that they’d already had over 220 people attend the event with more showing up even into the event’s final hour.
“It’s been good. There’s been a steady flow of people,” said Hauk. “It gives the families something to do…It’s an affordable family friendly event for the holidays.”
Several YAC members volunteered at the event making sure that it was as successful as possible.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Ella Crawley (17), a member of YAC who helped with the event. “I think it helps bring the community together. I think it’s a fun little tradition.”
“I didn’t know that many kids had that fear of the Grinch,” said the Grinch. The Grinch enjoyed interacting with the children and showing them that the Grinch could be fun too. “Several kids were out there dancing with me,” said the Grinch.
Mikela Hays brought her children Elliott Small (1) and Haysley Small (3) to the event for the children’s first meet-up with Santa. She said that she loved getting to watch her children interact with Santa and the Grinch for the first time.
“I love it,” said Hays. “My kids have never met Santa Claus…But they love it. They’re having so much fun.”
Hays said that her daughter even waved to the Grinch which was big for her.
“I got a cookie!” exclaimed 3-year-old Haysley Small.
