The CCHS chapter of the National Art Honor Society is presenting the 2nd annual Festival of the Arts on Saturday, March 23, at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.
The day-long event is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
“This is an art event to allow the fine art departments to display their visual arts or perform their performance art pieces. It’s a chance to showcase the talented art students that we have in our district,” the Fine Arts Department said.
“National Art Honor Society advocates for the therapeutic ways of art and how it can be so helpful in dealing with mental health. This event is a day to come celebrate the arts and relax at various tables creating your own art. We will have Japanese book binding, watercolor bookmark making, crocheting, felting, jewelry making, marble painting and senior showcases.”
Last year’s festival featured approximately 450 pieces of art and the event was held at the Copperas Cove High School cafeteria. This year, it has grown and those who attend can participate in hands-on activities as well.
The day will also feature entertainment by various performing art groups, along with the visual arts gallery.
A number of the student artists have been past qualifiers for the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), put on by the Texas Art Education Association every year.
The day also begins with the inaugural 5K, put on by the Pride of Cove Band and Color Guard.
The 5K run will be held in City Park and registration is $30 per person, or $25 for groups of 2 or more.
Pre-registration can be done by 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 22, at https://www.runreg.com/prideofcove#Location.
