A Kempner man died as a result of injuries he received in a Sunday evening motorcycle crash on the U.S. 190 bypass in Copperas Cove.

On Monday afternoon, Copperas Cove Department announced that 29-year-old Brandon Wayne Fitzwater was involved in a crash at approximately 8:29 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers began interviewing witnesses.

“It was determined that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, resulting in a loss of control. Subsequently, another vehicle collided with the motorcyclist, causing severe injuries,” Lt. Krystal Baker with the CCPD stated in a press release.

Baker said that witnesses stayed at the scene and attempted to provide first aide before Copperas Cove Fire and EMS arrived, who then began administering life-saving measures.

Fitzwater was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“This incident continues to be investigated,” said Lt. Baker. “The Copperas Cove Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”
