The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce presented Hope Pregnancy Center with a check for $2,600 Monday afternoon.
The money was raised through the 14th annual Jackrabbit Run 4 Hope 5K/10K race held May 6 at Ogletree Gap Park. The race has been sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce since 2015.
Anna Leach, the Copperas Cove center director, said that Hope Pregnancy Center was so “blessed” that the Chamber took on the responsibility of the run. The proceeds of this year’s race will help provide ultrasounds, pregnancy tests and other help to the center’s clients.
The center in Copperas Cove is one of three locations, with one in Temple and in Killeen. They rely on donations and fundraising through their annual banquet and the Jackrabbit Run 4 Hope. They do not receive any federal funding, Leach said.
This is why the support from the Chamber is extremely important, she added.
“We just live on the blessings of others and it’s a wonderful, wonderful opportunity,” Leach said.
In addition to free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, the center also provides a proof of pregnancy for patients to use to qualify for Medicaid as well as support for those who find themselves dealing with an unplanned pregnancy.
“We help a lot of men and women,” Leach said. “We’d like to be able to help more men but need more men volunteers in order to do that.”
Hope Pregnancy Center is located at 601 S. Main St in Copperas Cove.
