Five Hills royalty and pageant sponsors support Cove’s soldiers and families

Special to the Leader Press

Copperas Cove Five Hills royalty partnered with pageant sponsors over the weekend to salute soldiers and their families for their selfless service to our nation.
The titleholders hosted three different booths at the YMCA Month of the Military Child’s annual Healthy Kids Day event on Saturday. The older royalty ran the Try on My Tiara booth while the younger queens hosted the Pretty Princess Parlor. The titleholders also signed kids up for national Lemonade Day. All of the royalty and their parents also had time for a little fun dancing, playing tug of war and, competing in the cake walk contest and participating in the human obstacle contest where the pageant mothers and grandmothers volunteered to be the human obstacles.
YMCA Center Director Doreen Vasseur said the event was extremely successful thanks much in part to the royalty.
“They played all the games, they painted little girls’ nails and let the children try on their crowns,” Vasseur said. “This is the 3rd or 4th year we have been blessed to have their awesome help. Thanks for all the royalty do for Copperas Cove.”
The titleholders also supported Domino’s Pizza, another pageant sponsor, at the 13th Annual Domino’s Pizza Soldier Appreciation Day.  Domino’s Fort Hood Area Liaison Ingrid Kiefer said the yearly event would not be the same without the royalty to add some sparkle to the event.
“We invite the titleholders every year to visit with the soldiers and say thank you to them and their families.  The soldiers and the families just love seeing them, especially the kids…and the girls are always so polite,” Kiefer said. “They also got the crowd involved in some line dance and just make sure everyone had a lot of fun and that’s what this day is all about, showing our soldiers we appreciate them and the royalty helped us do that.”
In royal sightings this week, Young Miss Five Hills Allyssa Kimball is teaching CCISD students about composting and recycling as part of her platform, Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful.
The titleholders are also judging the Taylor Creek Elementary Talent Show, volunteering at the Best Lemonade Tasting Contest for National Lemonade Day, and participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event.
