Filing for Nov. 7 election closes Monday

Both Copperas Cove city council races now contested

The November 7 general election for the Copperas Cove city council now has two contested races.

Latisha Walton filed to run for Place 7 on the Copperas Cove. Walton is a mother of three and currently a junior in college for public policy of law, and she also works as a substitute teacher and is a home health worker. 

She is running against incumbent Jack Smith. Smith was first elected in 2019. 

In the race for Place 6, Tayler Stokes and incumbent Vonya Hart have both filed for the ballot. Hart was first elected to office in November 2020. 

Electing filing continues through Monday, August 21, and closes at 5 p.m. that day. 

Election packets are available online at https://www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary/election_information/, and may be dropped off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., at 914 South Main St., Ste. D.

Early voting starts on Oct. 23 for general election races. 

Places 6 and 7 on the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees are also on the ballot for November. 

Place 6 is currently held by John Gallen, who was first elected in November 2020. 

Gallen has filed to run for reelection. 

Jeff Gorres has filed to run for Place 7. Incumbent by Dr. Karen Harrison, first elected in 2011, had not filed for reelection as of press time. 

As with the city council election, filing closes on Monday, Aug. 21..

Candidate applications may be mailed or hand-delivered to Copperas Cove ISD, 408 S. Main St., Copperas Cove, TX 76522. 

Candidate applications for the CCISD board of trustees can be found online at https://files.gabbart.com/1223/boardpacket.pdf. 

Copperas Cove ISD will accept candidate applications Monday–Friday, during regular hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the last day to file for a place on the ballot, Monday, August 21, the offices will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
