Copperas Cove city council place 5 special election heads to June runoff

Dale Treadway and Timothy Traeger will be headed to a runoff election for Copperas Cove city council Place 5.
A total of 1,790 decided the candidates for the runoff. There were also a total of __ 319 undervotes who did not select a candidate on the ballot.
Treadway received 31.73 percent, or 568 votes, and Traeger received 28.48 percent, or 491 votes. James “Coach” Wilson received 478 votes (26.7 percent) and John “Nick” Valentine III received 253 votes (14.13 percent).
According to Copperas Cove city charter, a winning candidate must receive a minimum of 50 percent-plus one of the votes.
The official canvass of the ballots for the City Election will be held during a Special City Council Meeting on Monday, May 13 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 508 S. 2nd Street. Also on that agenda is calling for a June 15 runoff election. The early voting schedule for the runoff will be released in the near future for the Place 5 race.
The term of office for Place 5 expires in November 2025.
