Cardio drumming in Cove

A Copperas Cove business is offering a different form of cardiovascular exercise than the typical bicycling, running, or other aerobic activities that most people are familiar with.
The Healthy Hub, located at 258 Cove Terrace Shopping Center, recently began holding workout sessions of cardio drumming.
The equipment involves a pair of drumsticks, along with an exercise ball perched on a bucket.
“It’s fun, it’s super-fun,” said Brock Stickler, who owns The Healthy Hub and leads the classes.
One of the reasons he chose cardio drumming as a class for the store is because it doesn’t require much space and it’s also simple to do for almost any fitness level.
On Sunday, The Healthy Hub offered three sessions of cardio drumming as part of a fundraiser for Relay For Life.
During the approximately 45-minute workouts, Stickler gave instructions for the drumbeats and movements that participants would execute during the song.
“If you’re offbeat, it’s ok – just keep going,” Stickler said prior to one routine.
Participants followed his lead, striking the exercise ball in front of them, or sometimes alternating right and left drumbeats on the exercise ball in front of the person to their right or left
Gracie Pedroza was one of the 23 who participated in the Sunday 6 p.m. session, and she said she loved it.
Pedroza is also a Zumba instructor, and cardio drumming was something new to her.
“This is my second time trying it; it’s great. It works your whole body, your arms, your legs,” Pedroza said.
Usually, the cardio drumming classes are $5 per person, Stickler said, but on Sunday classes were $10 per person, with $5 from every participant going to the Lead Team of the Copperas Cove Relay for Life, along with 35 percent of the day’s proceeds.
“Usually, you pay the $5 for your spot ahead of time and that holds your place,” said Stickler “The class also includes a shake after the class.”
Presently there are only two cardio drumming class time offered, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sundays, but Stickler hopes to add more sessions.
Healthy Hub offers a wide menu of Herbalife meal replacement shakes, with the banana nut bread shake being a customer favorite, Stickler said.
