Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful is hosting its annual Spring Eco Fling this month on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.

This year’s Eco Fling will be a hybrid event, with some activities happening in person, like the Five Hills Scholarship Pageant Recycling Fashion Show, and some activities happening virtually, like a gardening class.

“This gives everybody the opportunity to enjoy the whole thing, as well as possibly reach audiences that we may have not reached,” Flores-Achmad said during the KCCB Commission board meeting held via Zoom on Monday evening.

The Spring Eco Fling was brought back to Copperas Cove by the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Commission last year after a brief hiatus and typically features crafts and activities that highlight how to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Last year’s event featured several tables sponsored by KCCB, including free snow-cones and popcorn, as well as craft activities using household items like clothespins, water bottles and caps, K-Cups, straws, glass bottles and newspaper.

This year, Grab and Go Crafts for children will be available for pickup, with demonstrations for the crafts available on KCCB’s Facebook page.

There will also be several informational booths on the 27th. This year’s Eco Fling will again include the recycled fashion show put on by Five Hills Scholarship Pageant, held in person but streamed online, starting at 11 a.m.

New for this year is a Student Art Contest, with an “Upcycled Art” theme, open to CCISD students. The pieces of art will be displayed during the Eco Fling for the public to view. The winners of the contest will be announced after the fashion show.

There will also be a pre-recorded Gardening 101 class shown at 9 a.m. to kick off the event. Gardening 101 was originally scheduled for Feb. 6. It will be taught by Amy Casto, a local resident who is part of Bell County Master Gardeners and will focus on deer-resistant plants.

Questions should be directed to Flores-Achmad at kccb@copperascovetx.gov or (254)547-4242.
