The Cup is running over today

Cup o Joe | Big Joe Lombardi

There are so many issues speeding through my grey matter right now, that I wonder if there’s enough room to hold all this different stuff, but let’s try.
Topic No. one:  Texas high school football is in the big leagues now..kind of. It seems the University Interscholastic League has okayed the use of instant replay in this year’s state championship games.
About time, I’d say.  But there are catches:  No coach’s challenges, replays only when the officials want one, targeting can’t be a question and no replay in the regular season or the playoffs.
Come on,man!  If we’re going to do this, let’s take it all the way.  Give each coach one challenge per half, if they don’t win it, take away a time out.  If we’d have had all-game challenges a few years back, when an opposing receiver was given a catch after the ball clearly one-hopped, the Bulldawgs most likely would have won the challenge and probably the game. It’s a good start, but we need more.
Topic No. two: Cove has big-time diamond games this week.  Tonight, it’s baseball at Bulldawg Field against Belton at 7 p.m. The teams are tied for second in District 8-6A at 8-4 and this one could be a barn-burner.  Friday, it’s playoff softball between Cove and Duncanville at Hillsboro.  Please support our kids!
Go Dawgs!
