Bulldawg Radio is rarin’ to go

The on-air switch is connected up and broadcast producer Matt Thompson is poised to throw it.

Can you believe it? One week from tonight, Copperas Cove High School football kicks off season no. 47 across the airwaves  with the (borrowed phrase here) “thrill of victory and agony of defeat,” coming right at you through the magic of Guglielmo Marconi’s wonderful invention...radio.

Dawg football on the air got started in 1976 with Cablevision audio doing the honors...then 1978 brought the original KOOV, followed by KACQ, podcast Centex Central and then..it was all gone. What were we going to do?

Enter Bulldawg Radio, a Copperas Cove ISD operation which covers not only sports but everything else Cove schools are involved in and that brings us to the 2022 football season.

Our broadcast crew of Ben Petit, Russ Cochran and yours truly are, as the headline says “rarin’ to go,” because, even with the Dawgs working under their fourth head coach in five years, Tony Johnson and his staff has brought a new level of excitement to the program. You can see it at football practice, around town in the coffee shops and in the pressbox.

I feel good about this team and their chances, but a word of caution…Rome wasn’t built in a day, so patience is the byword and with that being said, this could be a fun season to watch…and to hear on Bulldawg Radio.

This will be my 45th straight year of calling Dawg Ball and I won’t be getting much sleep over the next week until I see Georgetown’s buses roll into the Dawg Pound and really realize it’s time to throw that switch and get it on!

Go Dawgs!
