Copperas Cove High School has been the one-stop place for student enrollment this week.
Families of students from prekindergarten through high school were able to stop by the high school cafeteria to be directed to representatives from their individual schools who would help them through the process of enrolling and answer any questions they might have. This year they also offered a special shot clinic to help make sure students were up to date on all required shots. There were also people on hand to help with figuring out transportation, behavioral support services, and understanding the learning apps that the school uses. They also had representatives from the Boys & Girls of Copperas Cove at the event.
At the end of the day, parents could use the check-out table to make certain that they had completed everything necessary.
To make sure that the event was as accessible as possible, the enrollment event lasted all week—Monday through Friday. Monday through Thursday they were open from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Today they will be open from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
“The big thing for us is staying partnered with parents to make it easy on them,” said Stacie Golden, Director of Student Services, about the enrollment clinic. She said they tried to think about what they—as a new parent—might need to make things more streamlined
“It’s literally I come in and I walk out and I know my kids are good to go,” said Golden. “On day one it’s all set and everything is accounted for. That’s part of why the shot clinic was introduced…a lot of time the shots are what holds the process up for some families.”
Elysha Luce brought her sons Hunter Davis (12) and Austin Luce (7) to the enrollment clinic and said that she really liked how simple and streamlined the process was, especially since she started filling things out online. Her family moved to the area from Ohio and has only been in Copperas Cove for about a week. Hunter will be attending S.C.Lee Junior High School and Austin will be attending House Creek Elementary School.
“We’re loving it so far. Everybody at the school seems really nice,” said Elysha Luce. “The fact that they have the clinic here to do shots if need be is absolutely amazing. Like I said, I just moved up here a week ago and I’m still setting everything up. For them to offer that is a huge relief.”
Many families took advantage of the shot clinic and were happy for the convenience.
“It’s pretty awesome. It’s really fluid…actually, over the eight years with the school district, this is the most fluid and streamlined. This is definitely an A+ experience,” said Nicholas Haffter Von Heide who attended the event with his wife, Carolyn Haffter Von Heide, and their son, Jacob Haffter Von Heide (5).
Nicholas Haffter Von Heide said that them offering the shots was a huge relief after recent issues with Blue Cross Blue Shield have caused big delays in getting appointments. He said that the earliest appointment they were able to get would have been in September despite scheduling for it two months ago. Being able to get their son’s enrollments completed and his shots all in the same day was a huge convenience for the family.
