The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau is now seeking a new president/ CEO, as announced in a press release issued on Thursday in an email from chamber board member and interim chamber president, Nancy Nelson.
Silvia Spires, who had been president/CEO of the organization for a little less than a year, had her last day on the job in mid June. In the press release dated May 25, Spires said “with a heavy heart” and under her physician’s advice that she was stepping down from the position.
In addition to her seat on the chamber board, Nelson, a longtime Cove resident, also serves as the Sales and Operations Manager for Cinergy Cinemas in Copperas Cove.
She said that the current chamber staff, K’Dajah Williams, Tourism and Communications Coordinator, and Monica Transue, Membership Director, are doing a tremendous job after Spires’ departure, as they work on chamber business in addition to their usual responsibilities for their positions. Nelson likewise has rolled up her sleeves and is also spending some of her time as interim president in the chamber offices.
In a conversation with the Leader-Press on Tuesday, Nelson said that those interested in the position should apply via Indeed on the chamber’s position listing, at https://www.indeed.com/m/viewjob?jk=e4741ed4facc8e65&from=native, where the complete job description, as well as qualifications and skills, are listed. Those who have questions about the position are also welcome to contact her at (254) 681-4190 or via email at nnelson@Cinergy.com.
The position has been listed, asking for three years’ experience in Business or Marketing with experience in strategic planning, budgets and finance and supervisory skills; three years; experience in sales, preferably for a membership organization and/or in the chamber or related environment; solid written, verbal and presentation skills; strong organization, time management, follow-through, and multi-tasking skills.
Nelson said the chamber’s goal is to begin conducting interviews in July and have a new president on board by the end of July.
The chamber is currently working toward its upcoming events, such as the Gallop or Trot 5K in September, followed by the annual Krist Kindl Markt, the first weekend in December.
Also on the chamber’s calendar are the monthly mixers, Coffee & Commerce events, Aspiring Professionals, as well as Military Affairs Committee banquets.
The weekly farmer’s market held downtown has been canceled for July 1, due to the holiday weekend, but is usually held Fridays from 4-8 p.m., although the heat has kept customers away during the month of June.
The chamber of commerce is the official visitor bureau for the City of Copperas Cove, and holds tourism events such as Krist Kindl Markt the first weekend in December, and the annual Rabbit Fest the 3rd weekend in May.
