City Hires new Director of Planning

The City of Copperas Cove announced that Robert “Bobby” Lewis has accepted the position of Director of Planning and began his employment on May 14, 2018.
Bobby was born in Merced, Calif. and traveled the world as a military dependent. Although he moved twenty-three times before age seventeen, he spent summers working on his grandparents’ watermelon farm from age eight until after college graduation. Bobby holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. 
He and his wife Norma recently relocated to the Copperas Cove area and they are the proud parents of four adult children and have eleven grandchildren.
Bobby comes to the City of Copperas Cove with over 38 years of seasoned experience, working for both public City and County government agencies, as well as private land development and telecommunication businesses. He is experienced in community development, project management, utility infrastructure, urban planning, zoning, land use, wireless telecommunications, GIS, economic development and environmental compliance. 
His accomplishments include receiving 1st Place for Comprehensive Planning for Rural Communities by the California Chapter of the American Planning Association, where he served as development services director for Merced County, Calif. He last worked for Mobilitie, where he served as permitting manager for 32 city and county agencies for the deployment of small cell wireless utility infrastructure.
A welcome reception will be held on Tuesday, June 5, from 4-4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 508 S. 2nd Street, as an opportunity for citizens and members of the media to meet and welcome Bobby to the community.
