Lady Pups soccer teams go head to head against the Cougars in crosstown matchups
Special to the Leader-Press
The Lady Pups soccer teams were back in action Thursday evening at Bulldawg Stadium. They played against the SC Lee Lady Cougars. 7th grade took possession quickly, but SC Lee had great defense and by halftime, the score was tied 0-0. With 5 minutes left in the 2nd half, SC Lee received a penalty inside the box allowing the Lady Pups a chance to take their first penalty kick of the season. Haily Welsh was chosen to take the shot and she made it. The Lady Pups never gave in and ended the game with a 1-0 win. Other standouts were Haylie Goodman as goalie. She had four saves and was aggressive inside the box. Sandi Cook had amazing ball handling and was a key player at center midfield. Taylor Moosman and Daphne Lachica were our defensive standouts on the night.
8th grade had their second game of the season, also against the Lady Cougars. The game started off well. Defense was holding the line, but the Lady Pups were no for the Lee offense. Maggie Crawley was in the goal and allowed three goals before half. Kapri Huggins, a key defensive player, went down about 20 minutes into the first half leaving a hole for Cove to fill. In the second half, Emma Durcan moved back to the goal and with Maggie Crawley on the field the Lady Pups really stepped up their game. Anali Ariola had a great game at center midfield. Aydan (Dani) Moreno played hard at left wing. Kaydance Gordon and Lisel Gomez stepped it up on defense. The Lady Pups ultimately fell 0-3 against the S.C. Lee Cougars, bringing their record to 1-1 for season.
This week the Lady Pups travel to Temple Travis for their first away games of the year.
