Cove AquaDawgs compete at Region III-6A swim meet

ROCKWALL – The Copperas Cove AquaDawgs had a solid showing at the highly-competitive Region III-6A swim meet at the Rockwall Aquatics Center in Rockwall over the weekend.
Cove senior captains Jacob Guerrero and Carson McVeigh led the way with some finals appearances.
Guerrero finished 16th in the region in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 49.69 seconds. He qualified for the finals with a time of 147.39.
He also qualified for the finals in the 50-yard freestyle where he finished 15th with a time of 22.95 seconds. He qualified for the finals at 13th with a time of 22.64. McVeigh just missed the finals field at 18th with a time of 23.10.
McVeigh did, however, have the best finish of all Cove swimmers with a 12th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. He finished with a time of 49.43 after swimming a 49.99 to finish 14th in the prelims to earn his spot.
The foursome of McVeigh, senior Hunter Martinez, sophomore Ryan Lippert and Guerrero also earned a 14th-place finish in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle relay. They swam a time of 1:36.13 to finish just behind Waco Midway (1:36.02) and just ahead of Belton (1:36.33). They swam a 1:37.23 to earn the 16th and last spot in the finals.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of McVeigh, Martinez, Lippert and Guerrero just missed the finals at 18th with a time of 3:37.94.
Hunter also competed in the 200-yard individual medley where he finished 23rd with a time of 2:26.63. Lippert represented Cove in the 100-yard backstroke where he finished 24th with a time of 1:07.68.
Also competing for Cove were the girls’ 200-yard medley relay team of senior Shelby Birdwell, senior Grace Wolford, junior Jacie Dudd and freshman Madison Sutton. They finished 19th with a time of 2:29.70.
The same foursome finished 21st in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:09.13.
Wolford also finished 24th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:54.75.
The girls’ team of Judd, Sutton, Birdwell and Wolford were disqualified in the 400-yard freestyle relay as was the boy’s foursome of Lippert, junior Abdiel Hernandez-Lopez, sophomore Justin Green and Hunter in the 200-yard medley relay.
The boys finished 17th with 14 total points.
