The Moose Riders of Copperas Cove Moose Lodge 2029 hosted their 3rd annual car show on Saturday afternoon.
About 60 entries in total participated in the dual-contest event, said Alex “Smitty” Smith, Moose Riders president.
The day included a motorcycle show for the Moose Riders, and a car show featuring 34 vehicles.
Owners competed for top honors and hand-crafted trophies for first, second, and third place winners in divisions, as well as Best in Show and People’s Choice awards. Rabbit Fest royalty assisted at the close of the show to help present trophies to the winners.
Vendors were on hand and there were door prize drawings throughout the afternoon.
The family-friendly event was to raise funds for the various groups, local and national, that the lodge supports, Smith said, who has been a lodge member for 11 years and a Moose Rider for six years.
Locally, the lodge has three local charities it helps support, to include Cove House, the Copperas Cove Soup Kitchen, and the Killeen Food Bank.
The lodge also participated in the build-a-bear workshop last December at Bearables in downtown Copperas Cove, in which 100 special needs CCISD students were treated to an afternoon of fun with a visit from Santa.
The lodge supports the national home for children, Moose Heart, located west of Chicago. Instead of being “in the system”, children live on the 1,000-acre property in homes.
“They call it ‘Child City’ and it’s the largest orphanage in the United States,” Smith said. “The kids live in actual homes, with house parents. They receive medical care, go to school. Every May, Moose members head up to Moose Heart at the time of the graduation.”
Graduating seniors at Moose Heart are all given laptops to use as they go on to higher education, with Moose lodges raising funds to provide those for children.
Up next for the lodge is a barbecue to benefit Cove House this summer, Smith added.
