Treadway wins council seat in June 15 runoff election

Dale Treadway came out ahead in the polls for the June 15 runoff election for Place 5 on the Copperas Cove city council, by a 62.92 percent to 37.08 percent margin.
Treadway received 224 votes, and Timothy Traeger received 132 votes.
Small early voting numbers – 191 early votes when all were tallied – showed initially light interest among the 24,802 registered Copperas Cove voters,
Altogether, 192 voters cast ballots at the Copperas Cove Voting Center during seven days of early voting, and 42 mail-in absentee ballots were received, with 1 undervote via absentee ballot, 1 early voting ballot, and 1 on election day.
On runoff election day, an additional 123 voters headed to the polls to decide the winner. Altogether, a total of 359, or 1.45 percent, of the city's registered voters participated.
Back on May 4, Treadway received 31.73 percent, or 568 votes, and Traeger received 28.48 percent, or 491 votes. The margin was 77 votes at that time.
According to Copperas Cove city charter, a winning candidate must receive a minimum of 50 percent-plus one of the votes.
The city council will meet on June 20 to canvass the results and Treadway will be sworn in prior to a future meeting.
The term of office for Place 5 expires in November 2025.
