An early-morning crash on F.M. 116 North around 4:25 a.m. Thursday injured one man and left another dead at the scene.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the accident scene, near the intersection of F.M. 116 and Lonesome Oak Road.

According to a press release issued Thursday afternoon by DPS, a 34-year-old male was driving a 2015 GMC Acadia southbound on F.M. 116., failed to maintain the GMC in the southbound lane and crossed into the northbound lane of travel.

Manuel Moreno was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima northbound, and the GMC collided head-on with Moreno’s vehicle.

Moreno was killed upon impact and pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Bill Price. Next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the GMC was transported for non-incapacitating injuries.

“During the investigation evidence of impairment was observed. The crash investigation is still active and open,” said Sgt. Bryan Washko with Texas DPS. “Texas DPS would like to remind drivers the dangers of intoxicated and impaired driving. Driving impaired is deadly and endangers everyone on Texas roadways.”

Both the north and south lanes of F.M. 116 North were closed for several hours while first responders processed the accident scene.
