After eight years on the job in Copperas Cove, Fire Chief Michael Neujahr is stepping down, as announced via a press release by the City of Copperas Cove on Monday afternoon.
Neujahr submitted his resignation on Thursday, Sept. 8, and according to the City of Copperas Cove, his last day will be Friday, Sept. 23.
Kevin Keller, the city’s director of public relations, said that Neujahr “successfully managed the 48-person department for the past eight years. On behalf of the City Council and City Administration, we are appreciative of the work Chief Neujahr has done during his tenure and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
The notice did not give a reason for the resignation. Prior to servinig as Copperas Cove's fire chief since August 4, 2014, Neujahr was at the Killeen Fire Department, where he had served since 2002.
Keller said that the city manager and the city’s Human Resources Department are in the process of naming an Interim Fire Chief and posting the vacancy notice, and that more information will be provided as it becomes available.
