Copperas Cove Farmer’s Market opens Thursday

The 4th annual Copperas Cove Farmer’s Market will open for the season Thursday, May 21, starting at 4 p.m., in a new location at the corner of Avenue D and S. 2nd Street. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Parks & Recreation made the decision to postpone the opening of the Farmer’s Market until this week, but planning for the market never stopped, according to Special Events Coordinator Ashley Wilson. 

In years past, the Farmer’s Market has been held at City Park or in the Civic Center, and vendors have been allowed to hand out samples of their delicious goods. That all changes this year. 

Each vendor will be 10 feet apart from one another, and there will be no samples allowed, to reduce any cross-contamination. Each vendor will also hand sanitizer available at their booths for customers to use while they shop.

The new location at the corner of Avenue D and S. 2nd Street allows for better traffic flow than at the park, according to Wilson. 

Wilson added that due to COVID-19, vendor sign up has been minimal, with only seven signed up so far. 

This week’s vendors include: Ware Farm Honey, Papas Woods, Paul Carella, Things N Such, Baker’s Farm, Holman’s Veggies and More and Kim’s Seasonal Sweets. 

The Farmer’s Market will be every Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., from May 21 through October 29, 2020.
