Central Texas College (CTC) held an induction ceremony on Friday to recognize the spring semester inductees to the school’s Sigma Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Twenty students took the oath and signed the induction form as the newest honor society members. Last fall, nine students were inducted.
Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges. It recognizes academic success of students at two-year colleges and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. It is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2.5 million members and 1,275 chapters across the country and the world.
CTC’s newest Phi Theta Kappa members are Mahzzy Arreola-Ramirez, Jeannette Bonner, Tobi Camp, Edmond Charrette, Sydney Dunivant, Cecilia Espino, Elizabeth Hedberg, Debra Hughes, Arian Johnson, Jessica Luce, Savannah McMahon, Erik Michael, Daniel Ortiz-Carrillo, Ozze Pack-Brown, Andrea Parisi, Joshua Pettyjohn, Michelle Phaneuf, Matthew Stakem, Janet Strickland and Cheng Zhu.
Each new member received a gold key membership pin, a membership certificate, notation of membership on their diploma and on their transcripts. They also have the privilege of wearing gold regalia during graduation to signify their Phi Theta Kappa membership.
The Sigma Iota Chapter opened at CTC in 1968. Students are required to maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average and have completed 30 college credit hours at CTC.
