After years of competing in district with all four Killeen schools and Belton with few changes, the Bulldawgs find three new opponents joining the 12-6A ranks with Cove, Harker Heights, Temple and district returnee Bryan, who came back into the fold two years ago.
Returning to the district is rival Waco Midway after a two-year absence while Hutto and Pflugerville Weiss come to 12-6A for the first time.
The Bulldawgs’ district schedule will essentially be a tour of Central Texas with the Bulldawgs going north to Waco for games with Midway, far east to face Bryan and southeast to face the Hutto Hippos and the Pflugerville Weiss Wolves to complete the seven-team district in Region II. Weiss is moving up from Class 5A.
Ellison, Killeen and Shoemaker join with newcomer Lake Belton in District 4-5A Division I along with Waco High and North Central Texas schools Cleburne, Granbury, Midlothian and Red Oak for an eight-team district in Region I.
Belton, Killeen’s newest school Chaparral and Waco University join District 11-5A Division II with Elgin, Leander Rouse, Pflugerville, and Pflugerville Connally for their seven-team district in Region III.
The Bulldawgs chances of having playoff success doesn’t get any easier either as their first-round opponents in District 11-6A are daunting with Cedar Hill, Dallas Skyline, DeSoto, Mansfield, Mansfield Lake Ridge, formerly %A Mansfield Legacy and Waxahachie making up a brutal eight-team district.
The realignment begins with the first day of fall conditioning on Aug. 1 or Aug. 8 for 5A and 6A teams with spring practice.
Copperas Cove ISD is currently in search of a new athletic director and a new head football coach after the recent resignation of for AD/Head Coach Jason Hammett.
