With summer in full swing, many families are hitting the beach, travelling to destination locations and taking photos at sight seeing opportunities.
For Offensive Lineman Mike Uini, his summer has been filled with the sights and sounds of football camp, racking up the miles with visits to Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M, receiving offers from coaches across the nation..
“My greatest take awy from each camp is how different each coach is and it’s fun to watch each of them coach,” said Uini.
Posing for photos with Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher are other highlights during his visits in June.
“That was amazing,” Uini said. “It was an honor to be in his (Saban) presence. He is more laid back off the field but on the field you can tell he really loves pushing his guys to be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.”
With more than a dozen offers to vaitous teams, Uini is focused on what he can do to help the Dawgs in their upcoming season and has one goal in mind, chaning the way Cove is looked at and bringing the team back to a powerhose of the district.
Heading into his Junior year at Copperas Cove High School, the 6’8”, 273 pounder is sure to turn some heads at the college level.
“None of these offers would have been possible withou my teammates or coaches,” he added. “This is our plan to change the atmosphere.”
Although he hasn’t made a decision yet, where to take his talents, after Coper Cove, he is soaking in the football knowledge from legendary coaches.
“I’m going to wait a little bit and see what other offers I can pull in,” he said. “It is a blessing to be able to hold multiple D1 offers from big schools. I’m really loving it, but still have work to do.”
The Dawgs open the season on the road with Vista Ridge Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. and will have their home opener on Aug. 26 in a showdown with Georgetown.
“The atmosphere has changed since Coach Johnson got here, the players really love him.” he said. “We’re not looking to any one specific game on the schedule, just focus on the one ahead of us and play our best for that game. We are taking this season one game at a time.”
