Sunshine, cheeseburgers and Bulldawg baseball arrive Thursday
Well, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the sunshine part, but nothing short of heading for Austin to pick up a winning lottery check and probably not even that, could keep me away from Bulldawg Field this week when the annual Copperas Cove Bulldawg Varsity Baseball Tournament cranks up.
Dilly dilly?
Once again, Dawg head coach Dusty Brittain has packed the tournament field with competition from as far away as Tyler to give fans three full days of watching America’s national past time, played by youngsters who are out there for fun and also trying to get everything right before district play begins.
What about this year’s Bulldawg team? They’ve had a very successful scrimmage run and I’m smelling a good chance at the playoffs for these guys.
Cove’s pitching staff could go as far as five arms deep and with the pitch-count rule limiting chunkers to 110 pitches per week, the strain is somewhat eased. And yes, I do like that rule. It keeps things on an even keel and makes it more competitive.
Anyway, back to the tournament. Besides the Bulldawgs, look for Lampasas, Gatesville, China Spring, Academy, Tyler Bishop Gorman and Luling. Cove plays twice Thursday, taking on China Spring at 11:30 a.m. and meeting Gorman at 7 p.m. The first two days are pool play, with Saturday’s games seeded.
The concession stand will be ready, featuring cheeseburgers that are things of beauty..and they taste good too!
Have your coats and blankets ready and take yourself out to the ball game! Dilly dilly?
Absolutely!
Go Dawgs!
