Copperas Cove head football coach and athletic director Jack Welch wants his defense to get more involved in the outcome of games so it was only fitting that the first ‘official’ offensive touchdown of the season came from a defensive lineman.
Senior quarterback Caine Garner found senior defensive lineman turned offensive fullback, Ronique Williams, alone in the end zone for the first live action touchdown of the season for the Cove offense during the annual Soap, Towel and Shampoo scrimmage Saturday at Bulldawg Stadium.
“It was really awesome,” Williams said of his first offensive score. “It was scary when the ball was in the air. I was like, ‘just don’t drop it’ but I caught it and it felt good.”
