LDVB sweeps Waco with ease; Dawg Tennis moves to 12-5, 2-0

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs’ volleyball team backed up their new no. 6 ranking with a dominant sweep over Waco High on the road Tuesday.
Cove allowed just 19 points in the entire match as they won 25-7, 25-9, 25-3 to improve to 28-1 on the year and 4-0 in District 12-6A action.
Despite the low-scoring affair, several Lady Dawgs’ racked up some good numbers in the win. Three different players had at least nine kills in the match with junior Leah Powell leading with 12 followed by seniors Christina Pettigrew (11) and Aidan Chace (9).
Senior Kamryn Ash set up that offense with a game-high 29 assists while Chace chipped in 12 more. Ash also tied for game-high honors in aces with three. Senior Aviyon Wilborn also had three aces.
Senior Jada Close had three blocks to lead the front row defense while Pettigrew added two. The back-row defense was led by senior Kristen Wasiak’s 12 digs. Powell added seven and Chace had six.
The sub-varsity squads also earned sweeps in Waco. The JV squad allowed just four points in a 25-3, 25-1 sweep and the freshman team won 25-8, 25-12.
The Lady Dawgs host the Harker Heights Lady Knights. First serve for the varsity is set for 5:30 p.m. with the JV to follow.
The Copperas Cove Dawg Tennis team also earned a dominant road win on Tuesday as they beat the weather to win 18-1 over the Shoemaker Grey Wolves.
The Dawgs got little resistance from the Grey Wolves’ in the lopsided win.
Cove will get their first real test of the district slate when they host the Belton Tigers today at 4 p.m. at the Dawg Tennis Center.
Cove will then get in some non-district action at home with a quad match on Saturday. The Dawgs will play Bryan in an 8:30 a.m. matchup before taking on College Station at 1:30 p.m.
