A pitchers’ duel between Copperas Cove’s Carlee Duran and Temple’s Lexi Smith came to a head in the sixth inning when Cove miscues allowed a pair of runs. Smith helped her own cause by drawing a walk to lead off the inning and later scored her first of two runs on the night on a hard-hit shot to shortstop by Kimberlyn Longbotham. Longbotham eventually scored as well on a passed ball as the TemCats eaked out a 3-0 win on Tuesday. “We’re not pleased with the outcome,” said Copperas Cove head softball coach Bryan Waller. “We told them that, in our opinion as a coaching staff, this is their best effort as a group. We took good cuts, just didn’t make contact enough times to make them have to make a play.”
