An early goal by the Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs soccer team is all they would need as the defense held the Harker heights Lady Knights scoreless during their District 12-6A clash.

The unassisted goal by Ali McBride in the first half put the Lady Dawgs in control and the defense of Melinda Balades, Gabrielle Griffin, Angie Key and Ariana Wilson helped keep the Lady Knights out of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Bailey French is credited with the shutout. French averages 3.3 saves per game through district play.

Sophomore Kailey Walker and Ale Ross were also key cogs for the Lady Dawgs offense.

The Lady Dawgs (2-2-1 in District 12-6A) get back in action tonight when they travel to Killeen to take on the Shoemaker Lady Grey Wolves. The junior varsity will take the field at 5 p.m. and the varsity will follow at 7 p.m.

The Cove boys’ soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to the Knights, ranked No. 8 in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Region II-6A polls. Senior Cameron Irvine scored the Bulldawgs’ lone goal in the loss.
