Lady Dawgs down Lady Tigers 3-1; clinch playoff berth for 14th-straight year

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs volleyball team avenged their second loss in as many games when the downed the Belton Lady Tigers 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22) Tuesday night in Belton to move to 29-11 overall and 11-2 in District 12-6A play.
Seniors Leah Powell and Sam Ingram led the attack offensively with 13 and 12 kills, respectively with senior Janice Fa’aola adding eight more.
Senior Abby McWhorter led the team in blocks with five in her first game back since Aug. 30 while senior Jaela Rice added three more.
Sophomore Emma Wasiak led the back-row defense with 28 digs followed by Powell (27), Fa’aola (22) and Ingram (15). Wasiak led in serves received with 32 followed by Powell (25) and Fa’aola (22).
Junior Emily Vanderpoel led in assists with 17 followed by Ingram with 15.
Fa’aola was named American Volleyball Coaches Association and Max Preps Player of the Week last week for her 39 kills, 26 digs, 29 serve recpetions, four blocks and two aces during the week of Oct. 7-13.
