While the current Lady Dawgs are making a case for a district championship, former Lady Dawgs are leading their respective college programs.
2014 graduate Qiana Canete continues to impress at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Mavs junior notched her 10th double-double of the season in a hug win over Little Rock on Saturday.
The former Cove All-State had a career-high 23 kills to mark her 10th double-double in the win over Little Rock. She also chipped in 10 digs to complete the double-double in the squad’s biggest game of the young season.
“It really drove us to play great tonight because they’re a good team and I knew they were going to get a lot of kills and blocks on us, so it drove me to play better,” Canete on getting her first career win against Little Rock.
The win improved the Mavs to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play and fourth place in the standings.
2015 graduate and another All-State selection for Cove, Lexi Perez, is being recognized for her hard work.
The all-time digs leader at Cove is continuing that trend as a member of the Concordia volleyball squad. The freshman libero was recognized as the American Southwest Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Perez recorded the most digs in a four-set match by a Tornado player since 2009 with 44 in the win over Belhaven. She also recorded two aces and averaged 7.80 digs per set on the weekend. Her average is now 6.10 digs per set on the year.
Concordia is 7-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Mary Hardin-Baylor leads the West Division with a 9-7 overall record and 5-2 in conference play.
Former Cove standout and Baylor senior Amy Rosenbaum has helped the Lady Bears to a 12-4 overall record and 1-2 record in the Big 12. She leads the team with 358 sets for a 5.77 assists per set average. She also has a second-best 12 aces and 119 digs for the Lady Bears.
Rosenbaum and the Lady Bears host Texas tomorrow night in a televised contest.
Bryuanea Hall is another 2014 graduate having success. The junior has started all 12 matches for the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team and has 80 kills for the team.
