Former NFL player hired to direct Parks and Rec

Special to the Leader-Press The City of Copperas Cove is pleased to announce Mr. Joseph Brown has accepted the position of Director of Parks & Recreation. He began his employment earlier this week on Monday, September 21, 2015. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Brown later moved and was raised in Tucson, Arizona. He attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, while also playing football and having the honor of playing in a Rose Bowl, two Sugar Bowls and two Outback Bowls. Mr. Brown went on to earn a spot in the NFL and played two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. At the age of 26, he left the NFL to fulfill his desire to serve our country and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a Sergeant in a special operations unit. Mr. Brown later medically retired from the Army and enrolled at Arkansas State University, where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Communications in 2010. Mr. Brown’s work experience includes being the Athletic Coordinator and later the Recreation Superintendent for the City of Harker Heights, Texas; the Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and the Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Fairview Park, Ohio. He is a strong community builder and extremely passionate about quality of life programs in communities. Now a resident of Copperas Cove, Texas, Mr. Brown is excited to serve the citizens of our community. He is married to his wife, Stacey, and they have one son and one daughter. His hobbies include coaching and playing sports with his children. A welcome reception will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 11am to 12pm in the Copperas Cove Police Department Community Room, 302 East Avenue E.
