Electricity was in the air for the Dawgs for homecoming last Friday night a week in a win over Mexico’s Universidad Autónoma De Nuevo León, or UANL, after electric storms washed away their season opener against A&M Consolidated a week prior.
The Dawgs hope that electricity continues tonight as they host District I-6A El Paso Franklin at Bulldawg Stadium.
The Cougars are coming off two tough losses to formidable West Texas opponents. They lost their opener to Midland 56-28 before suffering a 61-0 shellacking at the hands of Odessa Permian of “Friday Night Lights” fame in week 2.
The Cougar’s offense has just four returners from last year’s squad. The attack led by senior quarterback Kaleb Hatch (no. 12). He is 20 for 42 for 146 yards and a touchdown in their two losses. Seniors Matthew Levandowski (15) and Luis Baca (7) are Hatch’s favorite targets while senior Eric Phillips and junior Seth Dominguez bolster the rush attack. The duo combined for nearly 300 yards in the first two games.
Senior linebacker Eric Ruiz leads and experienced Cougar defense in tackles for losses with four while defensive back Marc Feste leads in total tackles with 17.
