The Copperas Cove tennis team continued their strong start to the 2016 team tennis campaign with a sweep in Saturday’s quad match against San Saba and San Angelo Lakeview to move to 12-2 on the year.

“We set a high goal Saturday morning before play began to take 12 out of the 14 doubles matches played today,” said Cove head tennis coach Paul Talbett. “This was done to continue to stress the importance of doubles for us and to put a little extra pressure on doubles matches played today. We knew this was going to be difficult to achieve, but we wanted to push ourselves to continue our doubles play up to another level. We came out of doubles against San Saba up 7-0, and against Lakeview up 4-3. We came up with 11, so it was of value to us to push ourselves to that high level of achievement.”

The Dawgs began the day with a shutout of San Saba 19-0. Only two matches were even close as the Dawgs made easy work of the counterparts in 17 of the 19 matches. San Saba’s Abigail Meador pushed Cove’s Abby Mackwelung to a tiebreak in girls’ singles before Mackwelung battled back to pull out the match 3-6, 6-1 (10-3).
