Copperas Cove sophomore Amber Boyd showed why she is the top runner on the girls’ varsity by bringing home a first-overall finish in the Lampasas Battlin’ Badger Cross Country Invitational on Thursday Oct. 9. Boyd’s time of 20:44.5 earned her the first place finish, nearly five seconds in front of Marble Falls’ Tess Johnson (20:49.1), and led her team to a second-place finish overall. All seven Lady Dawgs finished in the top 30 places overall. “Amber Boyd placed first place overall and earns our “Lady Dawg” award of the week, she ran a great race today,” said assistant coach Jolane Maddox. “Junior varsity runner Amia Cutberth came in second overall with a season best.”
