COVE GOLFERS NOTCH WINS
Cove graduate Tyler Morrison and eighth-grader Madelyn Miller each notched wins over the past week on the golf links.
Miller got the winning started last week with her two-day total of 196, including a personal best 91 on day two of the Waco City Championships. Miller bested the field by 17 strokes to secure the win. She shot 11-strokes better than her next competitor in the girl’s 13-14 age group on day two.
Also seeing success was Morrison with her 1st-place finish at the West Texas Junior Champions Tour event at San Saba River Golf Course in San Saba.
Morrison shot a two-over-par 74 to win by two strokes over Brownwood’s Sydney Roberts.
Morrison began the tournament with a birdie on hole 11 before ripping 14-consecutive pars to build a four-stroke lead over Roberts with just four holes to play. A few bogeys down the stretch by Morrison allowed Roberts to close the gap by two strokes but that was as close as she would get.
Cove graduate Bryce Anderson and incoming senior Caden McAnally also had strong showings at the tournament with Anderson finishing third with a 5-over-par 77 and McAnally finishing mid-pack tied for 7th out of 14 players. Anderson finished just one stroke behind winners Jaryn Pruitt of Brownwood and Jake Angerstein of Early who tied with a 76.
Cove Junior High’s Elle Fox also completed her out-of-state tour with a 78 on the final day of the IMG Academy Junior Golf World Championships at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, California. Fox finished with a three-day total of 249 in the field of 107 of the top 13-14 female golfers in the world.
