Cove golfers competing in WTJCT championships
By TJ MAXWELL Cove Leader-Press BROWNWOOD – Copperas Cove senior Tyler Morris and Cove Junior High’s Elle Fox are competing for the West Texas Junior Champions Tour (WTJCT) Championships over the past two days at the Brownwood Country Club in Brownwood. Morrison, the No. 2ranked player in the girls’ 15-18 age group, is two strokes out of the lead after the first day of competition. She shot a 2-over 74 to finish day one in second place behind Brownwood’s Sydney Roberts’s even round of 72. She followed up her first-place finish at Hancock Springs on July 15 with two wins and a second-place finish in a four-day stretch from July 20-23 in preparation for the tour championships. Morrison claimed a second place finish at Brady Municipal Golf Course in Brady with a 3-over-par 74 – one stroke out of the lead. She notched a pair of birdies in the front nine and two more in the back nine. Two double bogeys and one triple bogeys were the only holes over par for Morrison. She followed up that performance with a first-pl ace finish at the Lone Cedar Country Club in Eastland with a 9-over 81. She was able to notch one birdie at 4,833- yard beast. Morrison concluded the four-day stand with a 3-under69 to lock down another first-place finish at the Concho Springs Golf Course in Eden. She notched two birdied and an eagle in three of her first four holes on her way to a dominant win. She cooled off on the back nine with one birdie, one bogey and pared the rest. Fox, age 12, was tied for 10th place in the girls’ 15-18 group rankings heading into the championships. She shot an 11-over 83 to finish day one in seventh place against 15-18-yearolds to put herself in contention for the second day of action. Fox is coming off three Top 3 finishes in that same four-day period to clinch a spot in the championships. She shot a 5-over 76 to finish in a tie for third at the Brady Municipal on July 20 – two strokes behind Morrison - before notching a pair of second-place finishes at the Lone Cedar on July 21 and the Concho Springs on July 3. Fox finished with a 10-over 82 at Lone Cedar – one stroke behind Morrison. She shot an eagle on the par 4 278-yard hole 9 and a birdie on the par 4 197-yard hole 18 to highlight her performance. She finished off her four-day tour with a 3-over 75 at Concho Springs. She had two birdies and just five bogeys in a solid second-place performance.
