Copperas Cove hosts annual Bulldawg Relays

The Copperas Cove Bulldawgs and Lady Dawgs officially kicked off the track and field season with the annual Bulldawg Relays held Thursday at Bulldawg Stadium.
The Lady Dawgs varsity finished sixth out of 13 teams with 43.5 points while the Bulldawgs were 10th of 13 with 18 points.
Ja’aliyah Segrest paced the Lady Dawgs with a second-place finish in the varsity girls’ long jump with a personal record of 17 feet, 11 inches. Jasmine Haywood of Pflugerville Hendrickson won with a leap of 18-8.50.
Segrest finished just off the podium in the 100-meter dash with a fourth-place finish and time of 12.76. Wilborne of Killen had the top time of 12.40 seconds.
Segrest also helped the 4x200 relay team to a third-place finish and time of 1 minute 44.51 seconds. Anaya Copeland, Samaria Bostic and Malaya Thorpe completed the foursome. Pflugerville Hendrickson won the race with a time of 1:41.30.
Thorpe, Bostic, Olivea Nageeullah and Segrest just missed a podium spot in the 4x100 relay. The foursome finished with a time of 49.80 seconds. Killeen foursome Kalia Wilborne, Anika Thomas, Diamond Brunn and Zacaria Hopkins took the top spot with a mark of 48.87.
The only other podium finish for the Lady Dawgs went to Jasmine Davis who finished third in the varsity girl’s high jump with a mark of 5-2. Lauren Malone of Round also cleared 5-2 in less attempts to secure the win.
Also collecting top 10 finishes were Thorpe (5th in 110m dash – 12.76), Hope Chapman (5th in shot put – 29-6); Nageeullah (5th in pole vault – 8-00); Madisen Honea (8th in 440m dash – 1:03.32 and 8th in 300m hurdles – 51.77); and the 4x400 relay team of Honea, Alaura Gallups, Breonna McCarthy-Reese and Copeland (7th – 4:22.87).
Also competing for the Lady Dawgs were: 100m dash – Ashli Hawkins (27th – 13.81); 200m dash – Naguellah (20th – 28.12), Hawkins (23rd – 28.17), and Bostic (28th – 29.81); 400m dash –McCarthy-Reese (14th – 1:05.61); 800m run – McCarthy-Reese (11th – 2:37.90); 1,600m run – Liliana Perez (20th – 6:06.30); 3,200m run – Perez (13th – 13:14.97); 100m hurdles – Gallups (13th – 18.17); 300m hurdles – Gallups (12th – 53.78); Shot put – Yvonna Drayton (12th – 27-04); Long jump - Lacy Wheat (20th – 14-00), and Micah Anderson (21st – 13-09); and Triple jump – Anderson (17th – 10-07.75).
A pair of Bulldawgs had podium finishes. McKenzie Agnello finished third in the discus with a throw of 134-06. Jacob Tracy of Lake Travis won the event with a throw of 168-05.50. Agnello also had a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 44-05 behind the first-place throw of Tracy at 58-08.50.
Jerome Gaillard had the other podium finish with a third-place in the triple jump. He cleared 43-09 to finish behind Round Rock’s Jacob Jenkins (1st – 46-07).
Also earning top 10 finishes were: Amari Snead (6th in 200m dash – 23.03); the 4x400m relay team of Ja’Corian Frazier, A. Snead, Gaillard and Justin Raines (6th – 3:33.69); Javeon Meadows (6th in pole vault – 11-06); the 4x200m relay team of Tra’sean Marrie, Cam West, Marquis Brooks and Elijah Snead (7th – 1:32.79); Marrie (8th in high jump – 5-08); Tarin Stofferahn (9th in pole vault – 10-00); Tremaine Boast (9th in triple jump – 39-06.50); and Christian Tuiasosopo (10th in 110m hurdles – 16.99).
Also competing for the Bulldawgs were: 100m dash – Marrie (24th – 11.86), E. Snead (25th – 11.93)’ and West (28th – 12.14); 200m dash – Levi Smith (19th – 24.05), and Marquis Brooks (26th – 24.90); 400m dash – E. Snead (17th – 56.50), Branden Jackson (20th – 56.87), and Carlos Hodge (23rd – 58.87); 800m run – Jackson (20th – 2:31.75); 1,600m run – Joshua Guerriero (27th – 5:32.40); 4x100m relay – Marrie, West, Brooks and E. Snead (11th – 46.00); shot put – Trevon Lewis (13th – 40-07.50); discus – Ethan Swanner (15th – 101-04); long jump – Brooks (25th – 18-03), Frazier (27th – 17-06) and E. Snead (28th – 16-08).
