Bulldawgs begin hoops season with win

The Copperas Cove boys’ basketball team opened the 2014-2015 season with a dominant 57-45 win over Akins on Monday night in Austin. Senior Rashard Odomes scored 19 points and senior Chance Smith added 17 to lead the Bulldawgs (1-0). “I thought the kids played well tonight,” Copperas Cove head basketball coach Billy White said. “They did a lot of the things we’ve been working on in practice for the past few months, I was really proud to see that.” Akins took an early lead at 5-2, but the Bulldawgs scored 10 straight points to lead the Eagles at 12-5, with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Copperas Cove built an 18-10 lead at the end of the quarter and never looked back.
