Blount signs with Angelo State
Special to the Leader-Press
SAN ANGELO – Angelo State’s head women’s basketball coach Kevin Baker has announced the addition of junior college transfer guard Mikayla Blount.
“Mikayla is a solid guard who can score the ball many different ways,” Baker said. “One of her biggest strengths is her ability to rebound the ball on both ends of the floor. I have wanted to coach Mikayla since she was in elementary school and now I finally have the opportunity. She will be a solid addition to our team.”
Blount, a Copperas Cove High graduate, has spent the last two seasons at Temple Junior College. As a sophomore, she scored 10.4 points per game and grabbed 7.0 rebounds while hitting 36.6-percent from the floor. She was named to first team all-conference for the second-straight season. She also was a member of the Temple College volleyball team.
During her freshman season, Blount was named Region V North Freshman of the Year, first team all-conference and first team all-region. She averaged 13.8 points and 8.0 rebounds as a freshman.
Baker was head girls’ basketball coach at Copperas Cove in 2006.
