Funeral services with full military honors for Raymond Bruce Stewart, 84, of Copperas Cove will be 10 am Monday, January 2015 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Crosby of Trinity Baptist Church of Gatesville will officiate. Burial will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery. Mr. Stewart passed away December 30, 2014 in Gatesville. He was born August 12, 1930 in Perry, Oklahoma to Seth and Myrtle Marie Stovall Stewart. On October 28th, 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Garton in Niangua, MO. They moved to the Copperas Cove area in 1971 coming from the Netherlands. Before entering the military, Raymond worked for PattonCreamer y in Springfield, MO. He joined the US Army on July 29, 1949 and retired on March 31, 1975. He completed more than 25 years of service including tours in Korea and Vietnam. He and Catherine were very active in the community and were the founders of the Double C Square Dance Club and members of the VFW Post 8577. After his military service, Mr. Stewart was long haul truck driver for over 26 years, and an auctioneer. Because of his truck driving career he could tell you where most of the Mc- Donalds restaurants were in the country. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine on May 21, 2009; two brothers, Robert Stewart who was killed in action during WWII and Charles “Bus” Stewart; and a sister, Alice Merritt. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Debra E. Jones and husband, Randy, of Gatesville and Danette Lynn Stewart of Grand Prairie; grandson and his wife, Christian David and Holly Huston and two great grandsons, Hayden David and Saeger Thomas Huston, all of Saginaw, TX. A sister, Ruth Bullard of Springfield, Missouri and a brother and sister in law, William “Bill” and Dorothy Stewart of Arco, Idaho. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Memorial Bible Chairman, Copperas Cove Camp, Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 460, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.
