Services for John William McLendon, 81 of Copperas Cove are set for 11 am today, at the First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove. Rev. Mark Kemp will officiate. Burial will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Mr. McLendon passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 in a Temple hospital.
He was born August 5, 1935 in Defuniak Springs, Florida to John H. and Cora L. McLendon. John retired as a First Sgt (E8) from the US Army after serving more than 21 years, and as the Building Inspector for the City of Copperas Cove.
John was a member of Mt. Hiriam #595 Masonic Lodge of Copperas Cove and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #1070 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove.
Among those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Dorothy McLendon of Copperas Cove, a son, Scott (Christine) McLendon of Copperas Cove; two daughters, Johnette Lea (Tim) Gaines of Killeen and Kimberly L. (Mark) Lees of Leavenworth, Kansas; a brother, Robert Dee Mc Lendon of Pensacola, Florida; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family had a time of visitation on Monday, October 10 from 5 to 7 pm at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
