He was born and raised in Massillon, Ohio and graduated from Washington High School in 1988. While in school, he took delight in being the mascot for an indoor soccer team - the Canton Invaders. Following high school, John proudly served in the United States Armed Forces, and completed a deployment in Korea as part of his service. After completing his tour in the military, John settled in Central Texas, and eventually found a community to call home in Copperas Cove, Texas. There, he graduated with a degree in Business from Central Texas College, and worked for many years in the CTC business office.
Those who knew John remember how much he loved making people laugh. He was quick to tell a joke, and collected various odds and ends to help him pull off the perfect prank. He loved the idea of keeping a costume for every occasion, including masquerades, theatrical productions, and his favorite holiday, Halloween. He was a thrill-seeking fun chaser who delighted in fast-paced roller coasters and spooky haunted house attractions. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, ever ready to lend a helping hand or a word of advice when needed. Perhaps his most endearing trait was the amount of love he shared with his pets. There is comfort in knowing that he joins his beloved dogs Sybil and Leopold, who left this world before him.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Huffman; mother; Dorris Gump (Seese); and twin brother, Ronnie.
John is survived by his brother, Marty Gump; his cousins, Roger Cornell, Shawn Swisher, Jeannette Swisher, and Krystin Swisher and a wide network of extended family and friends, all of whom were touched by the light and joy that John brought into their lives.
