James Gonyer Sr.

James Gonyer, Sr., died on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

 

He was born on March 22, 1937 in Fostoria, Ohio to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Gonyer. He grew up with 11 brothers and sisters.

 

James was a retired Master Sergeant, who proudly served in the United States Army until his retirement. He was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other medals. He fought in Vietnam, and was also stationed in Germany and Korea. The eve of his retirement, he dined with General Patton. James later worked for the city of Copperas Cove for 10 years. He married Sandra Gonyer in 1959 and they had three children together.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife; children, Thorraine and Donny; and six siblings.

 

James is survived by his cherished son, James Gonyer, Jr. and wife Jeanne, of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Jamie, Sandy, and Daryl; and sisters, Betty of Fostoria, Ohio, Mary Ann of Cleveland, Tennessee, Donna Jean of Fostoria, Ohio; and Sharron Merrick of Copperas Cove, Texas.
