SFC Melvin S. Amspacher, USA, Ret., 84, of Pidcoke, TX passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 922 Lutheran Church Road in Copperas Cove, TX. Burial will follow with full military honors at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 PM at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove. Melvin was born on October 4, 1929 in Potosi, PA to the late Guy and Lucy Roser Amspacher. Melvin graduated from Fissel’s School, a one room school house in Glen Rock, PA in 1947. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. In 1953, Melvin married Phyllis Gayle Hunt in Fissel’s Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, PA. and together they raised 8 children. Melvin served his country faithfully until 1977 when he was honorably discharged at Ft. Hood, TX. After retirement, Melvin worked on Ft. Hood at the commissary for 16 years. He was a mechanic and could fix or build anything. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Amspacher; 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Melvin is survived by his children, Gary Amspacher and wife Elena, Teri Amspacher, Melvin Amspacher II, Guye Amspacher and wife Elke, Jacob Amspacher, Olive Lucy Eisenhauer, Vonny Harris and husband Ronald, Vernon Amspacher and wife Melinda; brother, Jacob Clair Amspacher; 25 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
