If you are into defensive battles, then Friday night’s contest between the No. 13 Midway Panthers and the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs may not have struck your fancy. The teams combined for 120 points in a 66-54 contest that saw 177 plays and nearly 1,300 yards of total offense between the two offensive powerhouses. The Bulldawgs bested their previous record of 91 plays with 95 plays in the loss. “This is one of the few games you can really say this, we ran out of time,” said Copperas Cove head coach and athletic director Jack Welch. “We got ourselves in a hole. We beat them in the second half. They were playing for their lives and we were playing for ours.” This game had everything for the offense- minded fan. The two teams combined for nearly 600 rush yards with Midway taking the edge with 335 yards on 49 carries for an average of 6.8 yards per attempt. The ‘Dawgs had 256 yards on 36 attempts for 7.1 yards per attempt.
