Rotarians reward students with bikes for attendance

Attendance and school work has closely been linked over the years. The more you go to class, the better your grades. The Rotary Club, represented by Eric Armstrong, Norman Mitchell, and Dave Shehane have collaborated with Walmart and Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary to begin a program for the year that aims to encourage everyday attendance to school. Every six weeks, a random grade is selected and the students who have maintained perfect attendance are eligible to possibly win a bike and helmet. “We had 97.22 percent of students earn perfect attendance,” says Julie Fish, the assistant principal at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary. There were about 50 students in the fourth grade alone who were eligible for the bikes. On Thursday, the Rotary Club gave away two bikes and helmets to Destiny Mastin and Joshua Garretson.
