Copperas Cove Church to hold 7th annual Mental Health Sunday

A Copperas Cove church wants people to know they are not alone during the holidays, a time of year that can magnify things for those struggling with depression or mental health issues.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, at 9:30 and 11 a.m., Cadence City Church in Copperas Cove will devote its two service times for its 7th annual Mental Health Sunday.

Jo Anne Harrison, M.Ed., LPC-S, is the founder of Killeen-based Restorative Hope Sanctuary, a Christian counseling facility which also uses equine therapy and talk therapy by licensed counselors.

“This really means a lot to me, because of what God lets me do in the world. I'm super pumped about being able to share with people and get them hooked up with resources that they may need,” Harrison said in a media release. Harrison has spearheaded the planning for this year's event, which has grown to include more resources for people who may need them.

So far, a total of 13 local counselors, mental health organizations, community professionals, and agencies will be present at the event, where they will share about their services and missions. Those attending either service will have the opportunity to chat directly with the organizations on site.

Organizations confirmed at this time include:

The idea is to provide encouragement for those struggling with issues – and possibly the stigma – of looking for help. It will also help get them connected to an organization or service they might not otherwise know about.

“We want to give people tools that when they do need them, they know where to look. Because if you don't know where to look, then you try to suffer in silence,” said Joe Bernier, pastor of Cadence City Church.

Cadence City Church is a nondenominational church with a vision to help people know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference. Cadence started in 2018, bringing life-giving experiences, as well as community events and outreaches to the Central Texas area. Cadence City Church meets on Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. at 815 E. Business 190 next to Dollar Tree.   More information about Cadence City Church can be found at www.cadencechurch.com or on its social media site, https://www.facebook.com/cadencechurchtx

The activities at the Center tell a story of how the Center was started and continues to meet the complex challenges of the times.
